Some love stories are deeply rooted in place—and for Jeremiah and Lily, that place is the Flint Hills of Kansas.
Having shared years of memories in this expansive, windswept region, it felt only fitting that we photographed their engagement session in the very landscape that has means so much to them. Jeremiah has been part of the Tallgrass Artist Residency since 2022, and together, he and Lily have spent countless hours exploring, photographing, and forming deep connections with the land and its people.
Both Jeremiah and Lily are incredibly accomplished photographers whose work thoughtfully navigates themes of social and political justice, environmental advocacy, and underrepresented communities. Their work includes powerful projects such as Louisiana Trail Riders, The 4th Estate, The Spillway, and Toward a Larger Freedom—each one an important contribution to contemporary documentary photography.
They also share their passion for photography through education. Lily is professor at Southeastern Louisiana University, while Jeremiah is a professor at Louisiana State University—mentoring the next generation of artists and storytellers.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing both Jeremiah and Lily for over a decade, and being asked to photograph this moment in their story was a true honor. Their connection, their shared artistry, and the setting they chose made this engagement session one I’ll never forget.
